Alright kids! It’s been a crazy day, but unless something massive happens in the next few hours, this marks the end of the TFFLB-TL for today. Thanks for your Tweets, comments and mental vibes. Cheers and be sure to watch this space for KJ’s Everton/Man City match wrap…
3:47 PM Footy Blog contributor Gustavo Vieira has alerted me to some movement at Villarreal. Fluminense’s Alejandro Martinuccio is heading to the club, and striker Marcos Gullon has left for Racing Santander on a free.
3:43 PM A few posters have wondered whether this has to do with the arrival of Nikica Jelavic?
Moronic fan runs on to Goodison Park and handcuffs himself to Joe Hart’s goalpost. Incredible scene.
— Kristian Jack (@KristianJack) January 31, 2012
3:27 PM The only reason Defoe didn’t suit up for Tottenham, btw, is because of a hammy, says the Guardian. Our last hope for a TDD big story goes poof. 3:25 PM Tottenham already two goals up against Wigan. Yes, it’s Wigan, but I’d like to know when this Spurs depth crisis/slump is supposed to come around. So would nervous Arsenal fans… 3:23 PM Well, this is a source, of sorts:
DONE DEAL: Ravel Morrison moves from Manchester United, various area courtrooms, to West Ham.
— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) January 31, 2012
So that’s sorted. If anyone is going to beat sense into this troubled young man, it’s Sam Allardyce.
3:09 PM NOTE! Kristian Jack will be covering the Man City v. Everton match and will provide a match wrap up later this afternoon. Stay tuned!
3:02 PM Half an hour gone by, and what does Transfer Deadline Day have to show for it? Nothing except for some half-witted Twitter rumour about Roman Pavlyuchenko agreeing to a deal with Lokomotiv Moscow. YOWZA!
And the Zamora deal still isn’t finished. Meanwhile the football’s on so I may be quiet in slightly larger spells…
2:31 PM What you learn by following five hundred TDD live blogs: Steven Pienaar is the lynch pin in either the Saha to Tottenham deal or the Milos Krasic to Tottenham deal. Saha is not on the Everton team sheet tonight, which means nothing and everything.
Neither is Jermain Defoe on the team sheet for Liverpool, which means he’s going to the moon. Or Liverpool. WOULD CARLOS TEVEZ DO SOMETHING FFS?
2:10 PM This is my first transfer deadline day live blog. Other than being exhausting, it plays games with your head. I’m sure I read about this Sotirios Kyrgiakos to Sunderland story before (it’s now confirmed), and I realize these stories break in sections. First, the rumour. Then the talks. Then confirmation of a medical. Then the photo with the twenty-something smiling while holding onto a football shirt in an empty stadium.
I will also take the time to point out the Zamora to QPR transfer is still stuck over his personal terms, which I’m sure involve the number of red Skittles in his dressing room spread.
1:55 PM BREAKING! Another Dunlop special! He’s just heard on talkSPORT that the 19 year-old attacking mid Thomas Eisfeld to Arsenal from Dortmund deal is finally finished. Wikipedia of course wastes no time, and even includes a doctored photo.
1:48 PM From the Telegraph:
18.31 It’s a DONE DEAL. Blackburn have signed Bradley Orr from QPR.
AND, from the Grauniad:
6.29pm: Tonight’s starting XIs in the Premier League might offer some tell-tale signs of late transfer moves. Sky Sports are suggesting that Hugo Rodallega has been left out of the Wigan side to face Tottenham
Most of these live blogs, like Ledley King are fading to nothing ahead of full-time. It’s quite sad to see. Not this one though. I’ll show them. I’ll show them all!
1:34 PM You know there are too many damn transfer deadline day blogs when bloody FIFA have one up. Aren’t they supposed to be encouraging financial restraint?
1:31 PM Brendan Dunlop has surreptitiously handed me this late breaking news item. Motta to PSG is now finished. Deal!
This transfer window it appears PSG aimed for the stars only to end up with a pretty nifty Russian satellite.
1:17 PM BBC declares unanimous transfer deadline day defeat:
1806: Here’s some big news. Ok, it doesn’t involve transfers but it is still pretty massive, I’m sure you’ll agree. The new BBC Sport website will be ready for its relaunch at 0600 GMT on Wednesday. So, after tonight’s transfer deeds are done and dusted, take a nap, and return over breakfast to see what we’ve done with your favourite sport site
They’ve gone and pulled a Bayern Munich there. Seriously, what big deals am I waiting for?
1:13 PM James Appell gives expectant Fulham fans a little treat:
Now that the deal’s complete, how about a compilation of all Pavel Pogrebnyak’s goals last season for Fulham fans? youtube.com/watch?v=aRS6dh…
— James Appell (@jamesappell) January 31, 2012
1:11 PM So Rangers’ Nikica Jelavic to Everton is real. It’s. Going. To. Happen. 12:59 PM Sober Reality Department:
Chelsea have stuck out their financial results on a nice quiet day when they’ll get plenty of coverage. Losses down from £70.9m to £67.7m
— ian prior (@ianprior) January 31, 2012
12:52 PM So this is where we’re at: the Guardian’s Barry Glendenning is all over Watford’s attempt to hoist Adrian Mariappa. Wigan won’t have him, and Newcastle’s Alan Pardew already said the last bid which Watford turned down would be their last. He’s also pointed out that the Zamora to QPR deal has snagged on the former’s wage demands, which amount to £90,000 a week. For scoring, as one reader pointed out, a staggering 38 goals in his entire Premier League career.
The Telegraph meanwhile flashes its continental cred with this one:
Back to the continent, and Lucho Gonzalez is about to complete a move from Marseille to Porto for about £1.6 million, having been signed in 2009 for £15 million. Marseille manager Didier Deschamps has said the move was in order to cut the wage bill, but that they could not afford to lose any more players.
The Mail is also obsessed with Mariappa. And here we are. Afternoon!
12:24 PM JUNIOR HOILETT ALERT Now we’re cooking with gas! From the Daily Mail:
5.14pm: Looks like Spurs are not finished yet despite moving closer to a deal for Louis Saha. Sportsmail’s Sami Mokbel reports that they want Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett:
‘Tottenham are still trying to pursue a late move for Blackburn forward Junior Hoilett. Spurs have been in regular contact with Blackburn throughout the day and are still hopeful they can push through a deal before tonight’s deadline.
12:21 PM Hello!
Oh la….RT @javigomezsexta: On parle beaucoup de Gourcuff à Seville… @1DarrenTulett
— Andy Brassell (@andybrassell) January 31, 2012
The Gourcuff-haters that plagued our Footy 100 list will be smacking their lips over this one… 12:18 PM Some interesting news out of Italy. Vincento Iaquinta is leaving Juventus for Cesena, and Pippo Inzaghi turned down a move to Siena. Which means he is likely an ex-footballer.
12:01 PM Six whole hours left! I’m am literally tingling with regret at starting this live blog! But we must learn from our mistakes. Also, I can tell you via Sky Sports News that loanee Luke Garbutt rather likes Cheltenham and wants to extend his stay. Here’s a YouTube digital film when he said the same thing last November. Also, a cracking answer to my question below! “Re: 11:43 – Zat Knight , Ledley King and former West Ham midfielder Ian Bishop,” writes N. And on Twitter, friend of the blog Jayson Merrifield adds:
Xavi, Iniesta, and Bendtner. @RWhittall if Spassky, Kasparov and Fischer were footballers, which ones would they be?
— Jayson Merryfield (@JayMerryfield) January 31, 2012
A bit controversial there on the Bendtner call I would say.
11:43 AM Wow, today is really utter crap so far. Other sites are attempting to fill sizeable gaps in their coverage with reader blather emails answering tepid questions. So how about this: if Boris Spassky, Gary Kasparov and Robert Fischer were footballers, which ones would they be?
11:22 AM SOMETHING KIND OF EXCITING! I’ve just seen two commenters on two different sites say they witnessed Clint Dempsey getting on a train to Newcastle. WHY, CLINT? WHY? Also, this is almost certainly bullshit.
11:20 AM So, this is where we’re at. Time to bust out the Siegbert Tarrasch and play through some classical end games on my chess.com iPhone app.
11:10 AM Transfer Deadline Day live blog comment of the day, from the Fox Soccer Channel site where ace editor Richard Farley is answering questions with aplomb:
Comment From Syd Barret
I’m tripping really hard on acid right now Richard Farley. On that note, what do you expect to be the biggest signing of the day?
No news, except I’m getting rumours that David James may go to Tottenham as “back up”, and Arshavin could be on his way to Anzhi Makakakakakalele.
10:50 AM Mata to Espanyol?! Victor Sanchez Mata, Barcelona youth product, who played of late with the suspended Neuchatel Xamax. So many names to write down and double check. Also, Sebastian Le Toux seems ecstatic over his move to Vancouver:
Just got traded to Vancouver !Saddest day for me in my Philadelphia Union story…. Still can’t believe it
— Sebastien Le Toux (@SebastienLeToux) January 31, 2012
10:43 AM So which is the best Live Blog of all? The BBC’s is nice, as it includes all the lower league stuff that may be interesting to psychotics and Thomas Dobby. But ESPN does a Cover-It-Live embed? C’mon.
What I’d like is one of these, but for all of Europe. Really, the bigger North American sites should do that.
10:36 AM Nowt happening with Carlos Tevez. Allegri reportedly “pessimistic” about nabbing him for Meeeelan. And the Telegraph, which is trying awfully hard to emulate the ironic detachment of the Guardian, has some pictures of Cisse in a QPR shirt up already.
10:26 AM This Tony Barrett Tweet sums up why today is going to be a bit crap:
Chelsea spent £16m more on Torres last January than every PL club combined has spent so far this month. #realitybites
— Tony Barrett (@TonyBarretTimes) January 31, 2012
I linked to it this morning, but David Conn’s story is a worth a read:
There is, without doubt, something in this. Premier League clubs, previously inclined to view financial fair play as a dastardly European, Michel Platini-provoked plot against England’s money might, are realising it may be no bad thing to wrestle their losses, and therefore players’ wages, down. Senior figures acknowledge that Uefa’s rules are having an impact – and also providing clubs with the excuse to be firmer in resisting agents’ and players’ demands. More owners are seeing that it is not in their own interests to have an unrestrained market, because wages and transfer fees inflate in a spiral, reaching up to whichever owner is prepared to sanction the heaviest losses.
10:23 AM I’m already updating this thing far too often. I don’t know if there’s a maximum post size, and the window stays open for another terrifying eight hours. This blog could take up the entire rest of the day. Anyway, Cox seems chuffed at City’s Pizarro pick-up:
Having bored everyone talking about (a) how Pizarro is being underused at Roma and (b) how Man City need a deep midfielder, this works well.
— Michael Cox (@Zonal_Marking) January 31, 2012
10:18 AM Shamelessly stolen from the Daily Mail Live Blog:
TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: THE TOP NEWS SO FAR
* Kevin de Bruyne has completed a £9m move to Chelsea, but has been loaned back to Genk until end of the season.
* Wayne Bridge has joined Sunderland on loan from Manchester City. Sotirios Kyrgiakos is on his way to Wearside.
* Tottenham are close to to signing Louis Saha on an 18-month deal. Spurs also interested in Milos Krasic and Hugo Rodallega but need to ship out Roman Pavlyuchenko. Vedran Corluka has left for Bayer Leverkusen on loan.
* Bobby Zamora is in talks with QPR, and Djibril Cisse has signed. Pavel Pogrebnyak will sign for Fulham.
* David Pizarro flew to England at 2pm to complete a move to Manchester City.
* West Ham are in talks with Ravel Morrison, Nicky Maynard and Ricardo Vaz Te.
* Nikica Jelavic has arrived at Goodison Park ahead of joining at Everton.
* Crystal Palace have rejected a £4m offer from Bolton for Wilfried Zaha. Middlesbrough have turned down £6m from the Trottters for Rhys Williams.
* Manchester United have completed an audacious move for Manchester City’s teenage defender Frederic Veseli.
Too bad the Daily Mail hasn’t yet figured out autorefresh technology. But neither has the Footy Blog, so stones, glass houses and the rest.
10:10 AM EST Welcome to TDD Blogageddon. This is the blog you want, a rolling live blog covering all the activity on the rolling live blogs. I’ve got all six running transfer deadline day live blogs up, and so far I’m scared out of my mind. Which is why as soon as thing is mercifully done, I will be buying a copy of this.
Right now, we’re just under an entire day away from the window snapping shut. This is what we know. Queens Park Rangers are buying everyone in sight, including Bobby Zamora whom the BBC is reporting will go to QPR from Fulham for £4 million. Also Liam “Perma Teen Stache” Ridgewell is going to WBA, completing his tour of every single midlands club ever. Plus a whole whack of other stories that I’m scared to even talk about. Milos Krasic to Tottenham? Djibril Cisse to QPR along with half the continent? I’m already frightened as hell.

any talk of the sao paolo wonderkid Lucas Moura to Chelsea on deadline day
Im hearing Defoe to LFC?
Cisse and Zamora are both good pick-ups for QPR, Cisse in particular. Italy wasn’t a good fit, the English game suits him. His pace will come in handy.
Carlos Tevez to TFC? Sorry it just really isn’t the day I was expecting…
Re: 11:43 – Zat Knight , Ledley King and former West Ham midfielder Ian Bishop.
Pompey likely to miss out on Joe Mattock from WBA on loan as they can’t pay anyone, again. I heard that he is off to join Poyet at Brighton.
Reports of West Ham making a deal for Manchester United’s Ravel Morrison
Dunlop’s sources clearly not Travis Payne it seems, though maybe he said the Clint Dempsey one.
Travis: YOU SHOULD REALLY BE COMING TO CHIVAS DEUCE…GEEEZE!
Funny tidbit on Lucho to Porto:
Porto bought Lucho for 6 mil
They sold him to Marseille for 24 mil
They bought him back two years later for 2.5 mil.
How the hell didn’t any Prem/Serie A teams get on this dude?
Best line I’ve read all day, from the Rangers Facebook page.
Kyle Hutton has signed a one-year contract extension – and will celebrate it by going out on loan to Dunfermline for the rest of the season.
I am dying over here.
Trickery at its finest by Gers
Is anyone else surprised that Spurs want Saha?
My surprise is that Louis Saha still plays football. The fact a title contender would want him is beyond comprehension.
Alas, ‘Arry works in mysterious ways…
His mysterious ways are why he was at the court today…
He’s so good at making money disappear, be it from the tax man or into the pockets of Dos Santos, Pavlyuchenko, Pienaar, etc.
Any transfer news on the goal-post cuff fan? At least he gets to the net…
