From the FA website:
The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England Manager.
This follows a meeting involving FA Chairman David Bernstein, FA General Secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.
The discussions focused on The FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.
In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England Manager with immediate effect.

We need an emergency podcast stat! I’m just afraid now that Harry was cleared in a court of law, he’ll be leaving Spurs tomorrow.
The Prem is strong but the national team is just in shambles.
Wow. Did not see that coming. Having said that, I am totally going to contradict my previous statement and say that I’m not surprised.
I hear Amara Traore is looking for a job…
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, ‘arry is on the way out now, only question is how soon? I love my Spurs but also a realist, I can see Spurs suffering for the remainder of the season with this new distraction.
Agreed….this could put their CL spot at risk.
Why oh why couldn’t this have happened on Sunday before they played Liverpool?
Gives the lads something extra to talk about tonight.
YAY….The fact this guy wanted Terry as captain still made me not want him as England manager anymore. Great news!
He never said he wanted Terry to remain captain. He was furious that the decision to strip the captaincy was made without his knowledge and involvement, as would any manager the world over. Who the hell is going to want to work for a FA that goes over the manager’s head for on-field issues? Good luck England…
Just about every FA maintains that level of authority over managers. It’s not new than an FA made an executive decision, nor is it new that a coach threw a strop and quit over it.
SB
You can name another time where the FA has removed the team captain WITHOUT consulting the manager? Please, do tell.
The FA stepped in and banned Bowyer and Woodgate from England when they were in court back in 2002. That’s not stripping an armband, that’s refusing a guy to wear the shirt at all.
Bowyer was cleared almost immediately after, and went on to make a whopping ONE appearance in an England shirt. Also, how are you so certain that Sven wasn’t included in these decisions? Are you that intent on going against everything I say that you have to pull up obscure info about generally crap players that in no way measure in comparison to the reasoning behind Capello’s departure? Because that would be quite sad. I ask of you to find an instance where a Football Association, of any nation, undermined the authority of the manager in a comparable way to this.
Sven was not asked. Sven was told they were ineligible.
Are you really that insecure that you need to consider this a personal attack? You asked for an example, I gave you two more severe examples, and you try to turn it into a personal attack. Grow up.
BTW, He DID say that Terry was still *his* captain regardless of who might wear the armband. Clearly he did want Terry to remain as captain.
You are assuming he wasn’t talked too Dan. He backed Terry when Terry was fucking a teammates girlfriend and he is backing Terry now. So ya I remain happy he left. . I don’t agree with the footy show guys at all on this one except that Terry is a total douche other wise I think they are very wide of the mark in their comments on Capello.
I just can’t help but notice that regardless the topic, I can count on you to disagree without compromise on every single point I ever throw out here. Anyway I don’t know if Sven was really that crushed that Lee Bowyer couldn’t feature for England. My point here is that it was wrong for the FA to unilaterally decide that John Terry shall not wear the armband. I don’t think any similarly drastic decision has ever been made by any FA in a manner so disrespectful to a manager, and banning Lee Bowyer and Jonathan Woodgate doesn’t remotely rate close. It’s not uncommon at all for FA’s to enforce bans on players, and it’s understandable. But last time I checked, the FA hasn’t banned John Terry. Who are they to tell the coach who can and can’t be captain among the squad available to the coach?
Sorry, but with the rift Terry was causing with the players in general I don’t blame the FA for their decision. I say all this as someone who’s not an England fan and generally thinks the FA is backwards, but is right in this case.
All over a guy who calls a coin toss
The FA is a shambles. This is just the most recent example of a bunch of directionless has-beens and never-weres riding madly off in all directions. I guess they probably listened to Sir Alex on this one, not realizing he wants England to withdraw from international games altogether so as not to risk valuable players who other clubs developed and he now exploits. At least this time neither of his trolls piped up, Rooney because he is not a factor for the English side, and Evra because he’s French. BTW, has the linesman from the Chelsea match been demoted yet? That’s more the FA’s strength.
Gee Fritz, git a bone to pick? Somehow Capello quitting on the FA ties directly to Old Trafford? I smell an agenda.
Only the FA could fuck this up so bad.
As an Englishman myself, it’s so frustrating that the FA and it’s now EX-Manager were working on 2 different wavelengths….again!
At what point do we stop looking at the managers that have tried and failed, and start looking at the FA itself an the hierarchy of inept douche-bags that just sabotage every major tournament before it even begins. Suspending Suarez for 8 games, then pushing back John Terry’s case till AFTER the Euros reeked of them looking after their own interests, so to save face they strip him of his captaincy without consulting the manager?! WTF are you playing at FA?
Personally I thought Steven Gerrard would have been a perfect fit for captain, but after this latest round of bullshit if I was him I wouldn’t touch that armband with a 10ft pole. If Harry Redknapp does take over, I hope for Spurs sake it doesn’t take effect until after the season, because there is about a month between the end of the Premier League season and the beginning of the Euro’s which would be a fair amount of time to set in place a system.
AIONAI: If Messi is “The Messiah”, John Terry is football’s Anti-Christ
LOOOL Man the England N.T. never fails to provide a good laugh, you could make a reality show with all those drama queens. LOL now this is a real life episode of “Geordie Shore” hahaha
I say good riddance. IMO Capello was a terrible manager. There was no consistency in either his team selections or tactics. Hopefully (very, very, very hopefully) the new manager will move forward without Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, and Lampard in the first team. Wipe the slate clean and start to build a consistent team with younger players. It won’t happen, but it could….
Yes please I agree fully…
