When my coworker first sent me this video, I assumed it would be some footage from back in the day of Mike Tyson playing his own video game. But it’s not. This is 2013. Enjoy, my friends.

This is pretty big for the retro gamers out there. The EA Sports NHL team posted the pic above to Twitter with the message “Why is the ice blue in this NHL 14 screenshot? Find out July 11.” So three things here: the ice is blue, the font is retro, and it’s now 20 years since the iconic NHL 94 dropped. So you gotta figure there’s gonna be some sort of implementation of NHL 94 coming to this year’s game.

And just for laughs, footage from our NHL 94 tournament from earlier this year:

Remember Sharone Wright? Khalid Reeves? Eric Mobley? Alright, they weren’t big names, but how about Jason Kidd and Grant Hill? Sad news this week as both have decided to retire from the NBA, making them the last active players on the NBA Jam TE roster. There’s no in-depth look into this post, just a reminder of two rookies who made history.

Completely missed this last week, but here’s how EA Sports and the NHL celebrated the final 4 players in the NHL 14 Cover Vote. I know that these are getting kinda played out, but they’re still fun to watch.

Remember that NHL 94 tournament that went down 2 Fridays ago? Here’s the video that everybody has been requesting. Enjoy!

Not that you’d have to tell anyone around there parts that NHL ’94 is still BAWSE. The 20-year old game remains EA Sports’ landmark hockey game even after all these years.

NHL.com ran a neat feature on NHL ’94 with modern day hockey game producers and current NHLers running down their memories of the classic. What kind of NHL ’94 tribute would be complete without its most heralded star chiming in? Jeremy Roenick on his own virtual stardom, via NHL.com:

“It’s the No. 1 comment that is made to me over the course of every day, whether it’s over Twitter or meeting on the street. Whatever the case may be, I would say one out of three people I meet mention ’94 Sega,” Roenick told NHL.com. “They say one of three things: One, ‘You couldn’t beat the Chicago Blackhawks [in the game] because of Jeremy Roenick.’ No. 2, ‘I got through college playing Jeremy Roenick in ’94 Sega.’ The third is it was a rule that you couldn’t be the Chicago Blackhawks in the game, because they were that unstoppable.

That still happens almost daily.”

It’s been a day of trash-talk, heartbreak and victory here at theScore. Our EA Sports NHL 94 tournament is well under-way, with the play-in round complete. Here is how your official bracket now looks, with games starting shortly.
