Here’s your rundown of the Olympics events you need to watch today. (All times Eastern) Archery:
The women’s team tournament gets underway at 4:00 am with the elimination rounds while the quarterfinals kick off at 10:00 am. The bronze medal match is scheduled for 12:33 pm while the gold medal match is scheduled for 1:01 pm.
Basketball:
The men’s tournament finally gets underway today. The powerhouse United States squad takes on the French at 9:30 am while the States’ main contender, Spain, takes on China at 11:45 am. Other games include Nigeria against Tunisia in the early bird game at 4:00 am, Brazil playing Australia at 6:15 am, Russia takes on Great Britain at 3:00 pm and Argentina closes the day with a match against Lithuania at 5:15 pm.
Beach Volleyball:
Once again we have a full slate of preliminary matches throughout the day. Canada’s lone squad of the day is the women’s pairing of Marie Andree Lassard and Annie Martin who take on a pair from Great Britain. The first match begins at 4:00 am and the final match of the day begins at 6:00 pm
Cycling:
The woman’s road race final gets under way at 7:00 am.
Diving:
For those craving for a little gymnastics in their pool sports, the women’s synchronized 3m springboard finals begin at 10:00 am. Fencing: The men’s individual sabre medal matches get underway at 1:00 pm with the bronze medal match scheduled for 1:50 pm and the gold medal match scheduled for 2:10 pm. Canada has a lone fencer in Phillipe Beaudry who takes on Belarus’ Dmitri Lapkes in the round of 32 at 7:10 am.
Judo:
The medal matches in the Men’s 66 kg division get under way at 7:11 am with the quarter finals followed by the bronze medal match at 9:28 am, the semifinals at 9:42 am and the final at 11:10 am. Canada’s Sasha Mehmedovic takes on El Savador’s Carlos Figueroa at 4:37 am in the round of 64. The women’s 52 kg division sees their quarterfinals at 6:57 am, the bronze medal match at 9:00 am, the semifinals at 9:14 am and the final at 11:00 am.
Swimming:
A multitude of events today as heats get underway at 5:00 am. Medals are on the line in the Women’s 400m Freestyle (3:18 pm), the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay (4:00 pm), the Women’s 100m Butterfly (2:30 pm), and the Men’s 100m Breaststroke (3:11 pm).
Table Tennis:
No medals to speak of today but Canadian Mo Zhang takes on Austria’s Qiangbing Li in the second round of the Women’s Singles tournament at 4:00 am.
