Sandy Alderson is giving weird anime a run for its money as the ultimate fulfiller of baseball nerds’ fantasies.  The new Mets GM is slowly but surely reassembling the dream team of executives that used to walk the hallways of the A’s front office in San Jose Oakland.

Last week, Alderson announced that former Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi would be joining the Mets as a special assistant to the GM, and today news has leaked that former Dodgers GM Paul DePodesta has been hired as Vice President of Player Development and Amateur Scouting.

Both Ricciardi and DePodesta have worked under Alderson in the past, and both were featured prominently in the 2003 book Moneyball.

Be prepared for every baseball journalist over the age of 45 to use each Mets loss this coming season as an excuse to dismiss the merits of advanced baseball metrics.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that the Mets also have another member of the executive team with experience at the top of the food chain in former Reds GM Wayne Krivsky.
