Richard Griffin tweets that the Toronto Blue Jays have signed DeWayne Wise to a Minor League deal.
Wise spent part of last season with the Blue Jays, but tried out for the Florida Marlins during this year’s Spring Training. He opted for free agency rather than report to the team’s Minor League camp at the end of March.
From a defensive perspective, Wise is probably the best option after the three starters, mainly because he’s actually played in both center and right field recently. However, he’s most likely been signed as insurance considering the likelihood of Corey Patterson being terrible and Scott Podsednik being completely ineffective with his plantar faciitis on the turf at the Rogers Centre.
