So, here’s Justin Verlander trying to get out of a balk by making an impromptu chuck toward home plate after going too far into his delivery.
Despite David DeJesus’ equally hilarious reaction, the play was ruled a balk and not a hit batter because Verlander stepped off the rubber before he actually made the pitch. At least that’s what home plate umpire Joe Hirschbeck says, and who am I to argue.
According to Verlander:
I saw the video of it, and I couldn’t help but laugh at myself. It was a weird circumstance. It was funny talking to the umpires. They gave me a hard time about it, too.
