Breaking: It’s Cherington

Reports out of Boston suggest long-time Red Sox soldier Ben Cherington is the next general manager of the Boston Red Sox. As Aaron Gleeman of Hardball Talk notes, Cherington actually pre-dates outgoing boss Theo Epstein in the Red Sox organization, joining the team in 2002.

Cherington inherits a mess what with its infinite resources, deep talent pool and perennial 90 win record. However will he find somebody to manage one of the most popular teams in baseball, one with two World Series titles and six post-season appearances in the last nine years. Quite the row to hoe.
