We speculated last week about Jose Bautista possibly becoming the cover athlete for MLB 12: The Show’s Canadian edition, and sure enough, today, Sony announced that the Toronto Blue Jays right fielder would indeed grace the cover of the number one selling baseball video game.

Adrian Gonzalez will be on the cover of the U.S. edition.

For the record, here are the last six cover athletes and their corresponding numbers the following season:

  • 2006: David Ortiz: 54 HRs, .413 OBP, .636 SLG, .427 wOBA, 5.5 fWAR.
  • 2007: David Wright: 30 HRs, .416 OBP, .546 SLG, .420 wOBA, 8.9 fWAR.
  • 2008: Ryan Howard: 48 HRs, .339 OBP, .543 SLG, .366 wOBA, 3.0 fWAR.
  • 2009: Dustin Pedroia: 15 HRs, .371 OBP, .447 SLG, .360 wOBA, 5.0 fWAR.
  • 2010: Joe Mauer: 9 HRs, .402 OBP, .469 SLG, .373 wOBA, 5.6 fWAR.
  • 2011: Joe Mauer: 3 HRs, .360 OBP, .368 SLG, .319 wOBA, 1.8 fWAR.

  1. Sickkkkk – pre ordering this today fo sho

  2. HA! I love that they have John Danks in there.

  3. I was so disappointed with MLB 11, I ain’t getting any more of them til they revamp stuff.

  4. I liked MLB 11 a lot more than 10. Still way too many bugs and glitches, but the analog control change was fantastic. Pitching was much more engaging.

And I’m 100% ok with Bautista being the cover athlete for just the Canadian distribution. I don’t care if Americans aren’t interested and it’s nice to not have to look at Adrian Gonzalez in my living room.

    Well played, Sony. :p

    • if you like the show’s analog pitching you should really try 2k’s. i finally did last year and was an almost instant convert. the show does many (if not most) things better than 2k – but pitching just isn’t one of them.

  5. Dammit! Now i have to have this!

  6. ME LIKE SMASH-SMASH TATERS! Is it opening day yet??
