Congratulations are in order for Mister Ron Washington, manager of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers extended Wash’s contract by two years yesterday, ensuring the most photogenic man in baseball will confound impartial observers through the 2014 season.

The on-field results of Washington are nearly impossible to mess with. Two straight American League championships? Get that man a raise!

Of course, those of us who enjoy sound decision making and second guessing the choices of people far more successful than ourselves are in for a good time. Ron Washington is well on his way to becoming the winningest manager in Rangers history, which again says more about them than it does about him.

The Rangers under Jon Daniels own one of the most talented rosters in baseball, with well-above average players at nearly every position. They built one of the best bullpens in baseball which, if the hosts of the Getting Blanked Show are to be believed, was done with the expressed interest of taking any and all hard decision making out of Ron Washington’s hands.

The batting order of the Rangers is a constant cause for alarm among baseball fans who put far too much stock in those types of things. Giving worse hitters more at bats than better hitters doesn’t seem too good for business.

And yet here sits Wash. Now quite rich with a very impressive resume and the adoration of his players. Not a bad place to be, I suppose. The love of nerds can only get you so far in life. Which is a shame.
