Thanks to the irrepressible Dan McQuade and his recent rundown of Phillies on TV, I was reminded of/learned about a Saturday Night Live skit from 1997 featuring scores of Major League Baseball players. None of which remain Major League players, save Scott Rolen.

The skit is predictably terrible (Chris Kattan, the worst) thanks in no small part to Rolen butchering his lines. It does, however, contain baseball players smoking, drinking, and using a homophobic epithet against Kattan’s character.

With any luck, Hall of Fame voters won’t use this skit against Rolen when the time comes to do what is right and get him a bust in Cooperstown.

  1. The weird thing is I actually very vaguely remember this sketch.

    “Where’s Ken Griffey Jr.”?

    • Jackin bombs….

From what I can see it looks like Jeff Fassaro, Mark Grudzielanek, Scott Rolen, and Rondell White. Not what I would call stars in ’97…

  2. In all fairness to the lack of star power, it must be difficult to find players with immense baseball talent AND the wonderful acting talent on display here.

  3. They should have used Mark Mcguire, Bonds, and Sosa and Darryl Strawberry.
