This Joba Chamberlain presser is kind of bummer. It is encouraging to learn that he did not, as was first reported, suffer gruesome injuries featuring protruding bones and spilt blood. He does however, get pretty upset at the thought of letting down both his teammates and young son.
If Joba’s ability to pitch this year depends solely on his elbow rather than his ankle, that is a good thing. As mentioned numerous other places, forcing him to take a few weeks off throwing might be the best thing for him as he attempts to reclaim the dominant form that took the New York baseball universe by storm.
