Wanted: Vladimir Guerrero

Finally, free agent designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero has found someone interested in bringing him in. Unfortunately, it isn’t a Major League Baseball team, but rather the National Police in the Dominican Republic who have issued an all points bulletin for the arrest of the former fan favourite in Montreal.

Guerrero is accused of assaulting a police officer and starting a fight at a discotheque in the Dominican, where apparently they still refer to clubs as discotheques. Guerrero’s brother and two other relatives are currently being held by police for their parts in the shenanigans.

The trouble with the law comes less than a week after Guerrero changed agencies in an attempt to find work in 2012, even if it means playing baseball in Japan. There’s no word yet on how this might impact this pursuit, but I’m guessing it isn’t exactly going to expedite a signing.

Update: Guerrero has surrendered to police. No wonder he didn’t sign this off season. Everyone knows you have to play hard to get.

  1. I love how the article calls him “Ex-Angels Vladimir Guerrero” even after playing an entire season most recently with Baltimore.

Also, the story’s updated, Vlad surrendered to the police, but his brother says he’s innocent. If CSI: Santo Domingo is on the scene, they should check the officer’s uniform for traces of pine tar.

  2. I think they are called discotheques basically everywhere in the world other than Canada and the US. Not sure about England?
