Editorial Note: To celebrate Jackie Robinson Day, the latest information graphic from the talented Craig Robinson (no relation) of Flip Flop Fly Ball gives us an attractive break down of the man, the myth and the legend.

I think that this is important to look at because much of the writing you’ll read today about Robinson will cover his quiet courage in pursuing equality for African Americans. And rightfully so. However, it’s also worth remembering that he was an incredible baseball player, as this graph reminds us, that led the way for more incredible baseball players to contribute their talents to the sport that we all love [D.P.].

  1. the answer to life, the universe, and everything – 42 Jackie Robinson

    • Gee, I was starting to think I was the only person who made that connection.

As Branch Rickey and Douglas Adams both knew, the answer to life, the universe and everything is that all people are equal and deserve to be judged on their abilities, not the color of their skin.

  2. I do a double-take every time I see a player in another sport wearing the #42. Every single time, I’m like, “you can’t wear that!”

  3. Is that a graph error or am I reading it wrong?

Did Jackie not get caught stealing a base for his first 4 years in the majors?
    That can’t be right….right?
