A year ago that the Boston Red Sox got off to a horrible start to their season and the irrational among us were pointing out that teams that started so poorly never, ever won the World Series.

I think the hysteria culminated on one evening in particular, mostly memorable because it prompted Ben Badler of Baseball America to jokingly tweet that no team starting the season like the Red Sox had ever won the 2011 World Series. The amount of #Truth and #RealTalk hash tags that followed were monumental.

The Red Sox playing terrible baseball was notable because it was surprising. There was little doubt ahead of the opening of the 2011 season that after trading for Adrian Gonzalez and signing Carl Crawford, Boston had the best lineup in baseball.
