Editorial Note: The latest information graphic from the talented Craig Robinson of Flip Flop Fly Ball shows us exactly what positions offer the most offensive production, and that pinch hitters are the worst that they’ve ever been. Also of interest, to me at least, is the steady decline of the third base position in terms of offense. If attractive graphs aren’t your thing, here is Craig’s collected data[D.P.].

  1. Why no OPS graph??

  2. Love the post-Barry swoon in LF. Dude was incredible.

  3. I’m sorry, the point of pitchers hitting is what, again?

  4. Great work ! One small addition I would love to see is the overall league average included as well !

  5. This is a great idea, but the colors for some positions are very close, and the data points are so close together on some of the graphs that it’s hard to really track each position year-by-year. A larger scale for the graph graphic may help?

  6. Well dip me in shit & roll me in breadcrumbs! Maybe, JUUUUUST maybe this proves that 1B production trending downward means that guys like Fielder & Pujols aren’t as valuable on return as their contracts would indicate.
