The Washington Nationals, who own a 2.89 team ERA, best in the Major Leagues, but also have six blown saves on the season, expect closer Drew Storen to return to the majors after the All-Star break.
Storen, who underwent a procedure to remove a bone chip in his right elbow, made 100 throws from flat ground yesterday. “The arm feels different, but it’s where it should be,” he said.
Current closer, Henry Rodriguez, who has 9 saves in 12 opportunities, has looked shaky recently, most notably last Sunday, giving up a walk-off grand slam to the Reds’ Joey Votto.
Storen posted a 0.9 fWAR last season compiling 43 saves and a 3.32 FIP.
