UPDATE: The Cardinals have placed Allen Craig and pitcher Kyle McClellan on the 15-disabled list.

The St. Louis Cardinals, who lead the National League Central by 2.5 games over the Reds, have suddenly been hit with the injury bug.  Jon Jay is out of the lineup with a shoulder issue,  Carlos Beltran has missed the last four games with a bad knee, and now. Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post reports that the team will place Allen Craig on the disabled list with a hamstring injury.

Craig, who missed the first six weeks of the season after undergoing knee surgery in the off season, returned to the lineup on May 1st, and recorded a remarkable 1.188 OPS in 13 games. His early slash line of .373/.424/765 are all way above his career line of .301/.352/.540.

With Craig out of the lineup, the Cardinals have been forced to play Matt Carpenter in the outfield with Lance Berkman back and patrolling first. Adron Chambers could be the man recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take his spot on the roster.
