Chicago White Sox pitcher John Danks, who was told last week there was “no bad news” after paying a visit to Dr. James Andrews, has been diagnosed with a torn shoulder muscle. The tear will not require surgery, but there is no timetable for his return.

Danks, who signed a five-year, $65 million contract extension in the offseason, made nine starts for the White Sox before the injury, compiling a 5.70 ERA, 4.97 FIP, and 5.01 xFIP. He appeared in a rehab game last week for Triple-A Charlotte, in what was thought to be a successful step toward a return to the majors.
