The Rays, already missing All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria from their lineup, will be without a member of their starting staff, as Jeremy Hellickson is heading for the disabled list with shoulder fatigue.

Hellickson, the 2011 American League rookie of the year, had looked great again this season until his last start against the Mets. He lasted only 3 2/3 innings, giving up nine hits, allowing eight earned runs and striking out none. It was the first time in his short career he had failed to record a strikeout in one of his starts.

Chris Archer will be recalled to make his Major League debut Wednesday against the Nationals. Archer was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in the Matt Garza deal in 2011 and has posted a 4.81 ERA and 3.41 FIP in 14 starts at Triple-A.

  1. I read this as “Hendrickson.” Speaking of which, the Blue Jays need rotation help….*shudder*
