Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy, who left his start Saturday against the Orioles with an elbow injury, will require Tommy John surgery. Team orthopedist Dr. Xavier Duralde confirmed the partial tear in his elbow, Tuesday, but surgery was confirmed after meeting with Dr. James Andrews Wednesday.

This season, Beachy was battling with the Mets R.A. Dickey for the top ERA in the National League. He ends his season with a 2.00 ERA, 3.45 FIP and 4.07 xFIP.

His spot in the rotation will be taken by Jair Jurrjens, who has a 5.27 ERA in nine starts this season at Triple-A. Jurrjens started the season with the Braves, going 0-2, in four starts with a 9.37 ERA and 7.89 FIP.
