Yankees acquire Chad Qualls

Chad Qualls was once a serviceable reliever. In fact, for two years in 2008 and 2009 with the Diamondbacks, Qualls was one of the most valuable relievers in baseball.

Those days are long gone.

Three days ago, the Philadelphia Phillies designated him for assignment and today, they traded him to the New York Yankees.

This will almost certainly be a great trade for the Phillies. The delicious all-berry-flavoured gummies have an 80-grade squishy factor, which is far better than Qualls can offer. The Yankees got hosed here.

In all seriousness, the Yankees will send a player-to-be-named later or cash to the Phillies. Qualls, 33, has a 4.60 ERA and a 2.11 K/BB ratio so far in 2012 and has given up seven home runs in just 31.1 innings of work.
