The Cleveland Indians acquired infielder/outfielder Brent Lillibridge from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor-league pitcher Jose De La Torre.

Lillibridge, a fourth round selection of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2005 draft, has played in 59 games this season with a slash line of .165/.212/.177. In his career, he has a .212/.279/.351 line with a .630 OPS. This is the fourth time in his young career that he has been part of a trade. In late June this season, he was dealt to Boston in the Kevin Youkilis deal.

The Indians will have to make a corresponding move to create room on their 25-man roster. In all likelihood, outfielder Aaron Cunningham will be the odd man out. On the season, he has one home run in 97 at-bats and owns a .175/.245/.247 slash line.¬†Lillibridge may not bring the Indians an offensive boost, but he’s an upgrade as a defensive replacement over Cunningham.
