With a week until baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline, general managers for all 30 clubs are keeping their cell phone companies happy in hopes of making a deal to help their club for now or the future. After weeks of hearing Justin Upton rumours, it appears his departure from the desert is on hold for the moment, after team president Derrick Hall released the following:

There’s close to a 100 percent chance nothing happens with Upton between now and the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. I would be completely shocked if anything were to happen. You have a better chance of moving a star-caliber player like Justin in the off season, when the team’s know exactly where they finished and where they’re heading, and they can get more creative.

On the season, Upton has a .276/.362/.412 slash line with eight home runs in 89 games for the snakes.

Cubs starter Ryan Dempster would rather be traded to the Dodgers, according to a source for Ken Rosenthal. on Monday, reports had him traded to the Braves.

The Cubs are back talking to the Dodgers about Dempster, according to Jon Heyman.

The Miami Marlins will try hard to trade closer Heath Bell, according to Ken Rosenthal.

Several Marlins are drawing interest from other clubs, including Carlos Lee, Josh Johnson, Randy Choate and Ricky Nolasco, according to Ken Rosenthal.

The Toronto Blue Jays have interest in Marlins starter Josh Johnson, according to Jon Paul Morosi.

The San Diego Padres are planning on keeping pitcher Edinson Volquez, according to Jon Heyman.

The Boston Red Sox are interested in Marlins infielder Hanley Ramirez, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.  The Athletics and Blue Jays have jumped into trade talks with the Marlins over Ramirez, according to Bob Nightengale.

The Marlins are waiting on the Dodgers to show interest in Ramirez, according to Bob Nightengale.

The Tampa Bay Rays have interest in recently Diamondbacks infielder Ryan Roberts, who was recently designated for assignment, according to Tim Brown.

The Baltimore Orioles have had discussion about acquiring the Padres’ Chase Headley, Phillies’ Placido Polanco and Cubs’ Bryan LaHair, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The Angels would like to add a left-handed reliever, and have interest in the Royals’ Jose Mijares and Cardinals’ Marc Rzepcynski, according to Mike DiGiovanna.

The Phillies are “eager” to trade outfielder Hunter Pence, according to Foxsports.com.

The Phillies have offered Cole Hamels some thing in the neighborhood of six years and $140 million, according to a tweet from Joel Sherman.
