With just under a week until baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline, general managers for all 30 clubs are keeping their cell phone companies happy in hopes of making a deal to help their club for now or the future. From now until the July 31st deadline, we here at Getting Blanked will have you covered each day with the latest rumours from around the league.
The Miami Marlins are looking for a “Teixeira like” package for Josh Johnson and won’t trade Jose Reyes or Mark Buehrle, according to Jon Heyman. A look back at the Rangers / Braves deal from 2007 makes you realize that luck was on the side of the Rangers to acquire the “prospects” they did. The deal – Rangers trade first baseman Mark Teixeira and pitcher Ron Mahay to the Atlanta Braves for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and (prospects at that time) shortstop Elvis Andrus, pitcher Neftali Feliz, pitcher Matt Harrison and pitcher Beau Jones.
Tough for the Marlins to expect a similar return for Johnson, especially when prospects could take years to develop. Lets be honest, the Rangers were lucky that Andrus and Feliz turned out to be pretty good players.
