The Boston Red Sox have acquired left-handed reliever Craig Breslow from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podsednik.

Breslow has appeared in 40 games this season, posting a 2.70 ERA and 3.61 FIP, mostly in low leverage situations. This will be the left-hander’s second stint playing for the Red Sox, appearing in 13 games for Boston in 2006.

Matt Albers has pitched well on the surface this season, posting a 2.29 ERA, but a 5.01 FIP and 4.19 xFIP suggest that he’s benefited from some luck in allowing so few earned runs. The right-hander is arbitration eligible in 2013.

Scott Podsednik played 19 games for the Red Sox this year before a groin injury forced him to the DL. He posted a .387/.409/.484 line with six stolen bases at the Major League level.
