Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz is heading back to the Disabled List after re-aggravating his Achilles injury Friday night against the Kansas City Royals. Ortiz, who recorded two hits in his return to the lineup, still hopes to return this season. Manager Bobby Valentine commented on the possibility of seeing Ortiz back on the lineup card in 2012.

We have expectations that he’ll be back depending on how this treatment goes. The treatment will last a week or so where he won’t be able to play, so we’ll give him the full benefit to 15 days, retroactive to the last time he played (Friday).

The eight time All-Star and pending free agent has a .318/.415/.611 slash line this year with 23 home runs in 90 games. Outfielder Ryan Kalish was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

  1. Bautista and Ortiz go down the same day.

They return to their respective line-ups the same day.

They both aggravate their initial injuries within one game of that return.

    Reebok Challenge, you’re on notice.
