The Toronto Blue Jays will have their Triple-A affiliate playing closer to home next season. According to Buffalo’s WKBW Eyewitness Sports, Toronto has finalized an agreement to be the parent club of the Buffalo Bisons of the International League for at least the next two seasons. Further details will be released on Tuesday, with a news conference likely to be scheduled for Friday.
Since 2009, the Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate has been the Las Vegas 51s, who are located more than 3,500 kilometres away from Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Bisons play at Coca-Cola Field which is 150 kilometres from where the Blue Jays play their home games. While middling batters in Toronto’s organization will miss the inflated numbers of the Pacific Coast League, the expected savings in travelling costs should be enough to ensure that the Blue Jays acquire every contract on the free agent market this off season.
