Just days after naming their 23-man provisional roster, Team Canada announced their roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

One notable omission from the list includes Reds first baseman Joey Votto, who was trying to work out insurance issues after undergoing knee surgery last season. Pitcher Ryan Dempster, who signed a two year deal with the Red Sox this off-season, wasn’t expected to be named to the roster, although he didn’t shut the door on the idea last week.
“I’ve got a little while to try and think over some things and figure out if it’s something I’m going to be able to do,” he said. “There’s a lot of different variables for me this year.”
There’s good news though. Canada has one spot left on it’s roster for Joey Votto, who must still pass a physical for insurance purposes.
Ryan Dempster is a no for Canada at the WBC. Final spot being saved for Joey Votto, who must clear insurance hurdle.

Canada, who had to earn a spot in this year’s WBC after failing to record a victory in the 2009 Classic, will play in Pool D, which includes Italy, Mexico and USA.
