You may recall a furious tide of outrage in late December when MLB announced that all 30 teams would sport new batting practice caps for 2013. A lot of people were upset with the Atlanta Braves for their inclusion of the old “screaming indian” logo, and a lot of people were upset that so many others took offense to this. Anyhow, the controversial logo has been usurped by a traditional “A”.
Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that the Braves had not made a final decision on which cap design they were going to use before initial images were leaked.
Braves president John Schuerholz, via Bowman:
“I like the selection we made this year. We had a variety of choices that we looked at, some more thoroughly than others. But at the end, we liked this one. The fact that one person somewhere offered his personal opinion about one of our options, that was important to him.
When we made our decisions, we tried to contemplate. We tried to be creative. We tried to carry on the theme of our organization, and we think this script A does that. It is part of the continuum of the uniform look we have. We’ve never had one that looks like this during Spring Training.”
The new caps will feature a red “A” similar to the white one pictured above. The trim will be white, while the rest of the cap design remains the same solid navy color.
