Oakland Athletics v Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The American League West will see one big change from the 2012 season, as the Houston Astros will join the division, leaving behind the the National League and their four Central Division crowns. (1997, ’98, ’99, ’01). The Angels made the most noise in regards to rotation news, bringing in Tommy Hanson from the Braves, Jason Vargas from the Mariners and signing Joe Blanton to a two year deal.

Last year, the West was one on the final day of the regular season in classic Oakland A’s fashion, and this year will likely be no different.

In case you missed it, we covered the projected rotations for the: National League East, National League West and National League Central

Now let’s look at how the rotations will potentially look come Opening Day in the AL West.

5. Kyle Weiland: 0-3, 6.62 ERA, 6.49 FIP 5. Erik Bedard: 5-5, 3.79 ERA, 3.79 FIP

Thoughts: For now, Bud Norris is still a member of the Astros, but that could change soon with trade rumors surrounding the right-hander. The Astros are rolling the dice on Philip Humber, who tossed a perfect game for the White Sox last season, and Erik Bedard, the Pirates opening day starter in 2012.

  1. No, but seriously who’s pitching for the Astros MLB level team this year?

  2. Is Martin Perez ready to join the big league? I thought he was starting in minors next season.
