Philadelphia Phillies v New York Yankees

David Price won the hearts of beard enthusiasts and Yankee haters the world over yesterday when he said that his affection for facial hair would deter him from ever signing a long-term deal with the club. Realizing that he inadvertently ruffled the feathers of Yankees fans, Price clarified his comments today. Did I just type ‘clarified’? I meant completely backed off.

Via the New York Daily News:

“It probably wasn’t the best thing to say, but I didn’t mean anything by it,” Price said. “I wasn’t looking to offend the Yankees. It’s probably the best organization in all of sports. Not just baseball, but all of sports.”

So the reigning American League Cy Young winner isn’t ruling out a date with the Yankees afterall. It’s just that he really likes the easy going atmosphere that Joe Maddon and the Tampa Bay Rays offer.

“I can’t rule out anybody because, obviously, what they do for the game of baseball is just tremendous,” Price said. “I was talking about Joe (Maddon). I was talking about the way we do everything over here. How he lets us be comfortable in our own skin. And that’s what I was referring to.”

Despite his effort to patch things up with the Yankees and their fans, Price reiterated his stance on facial hair: “I love my beard for at least another year.”

  1. I too would shave off my beard in exchange for $200 million.

  2. He probably got chewed out by his agent. Even if you don’t want to sign there, you’re best to keep them in the mix.

Plus now that Steinbrenner Sr is gone, who knows the future of their silly facial hair rule.

  3. Well Blue Jays, load up the money dumptruck again, there’s 1 more house to go to in the off-season.
