Oregon Ducks pitcher Jeff Gold demonstrates an ability to think on his feet here when a comebacker gets lodged in the webbing of his glove. Rather than bother with trying to pull the ball out of his glove, Gold just tosses the whole thing to first base. Good job by the first baseman to ignore the flying hunk of leather and catch the ball, which worked its way out en route.
I saw a play similar to this in the 1999 Festival of the Tartans softball tournament in Nova Scotia. It wasn’t a ball caught in the pitcher’s glove, though, but a beer. I still to this day can’t figure out why anyone would toss a glove with a beer in it to first base. Perhaps alcohol consumption had something to do with that decision making process.
