Miami Marlins v New York Mets

With Johan Santana still out of action due to shoulder weakness, the New York Mets have named left-hander Jon Niese the Opening Day starter April 1st against the San Diego Padres, according to Adam Rubin.

Niese, a former 7th round draft pick of the Mets in the 2005 amateur draft, started 30 games for New York in 2012, posting a 3.40 ERA, 3.80 FIP and 3.64 xFIP with  7.3 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9.

The Mets rotation will now consist of Niese, Shaun Marcum, Matt Harvey, Dillon Gee and Jeremy Hefner, with Santana likely to start the season on the 15-day disabled list.
