Garland, who signed a minor league deal with Seattle this off season after missing last year as he recovered from surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, looked good over the course of the spring, but not enough to make the big club. In four Cactus League starts, Garland tossed 12 innings, allowing three earned runs, while striking out four.
The Mariners rotation now consists of Felix Hernandez, Joe Saunders, Hisashi Iwakuma, Erasmo Ramirez, and Blake Beavan.
Jacobs, a seven year veteran, hit just .286/.310/.536 in 17 spring games this year. He last appeared in the majors for the D’Backs in 2012, playing in just 13 games.
