The Cincinnati Reds’ acquisition of Shin-Soo Choo was one of the offseason pickups that I applauded most. When you’re a contending team and the opportunity to add a player who has walked in over 11% of his career plate appearances while offering some pop and speed presents itself, you make that move. The Reds’ plan to trot Choo out in center field everyday is something I’m not so eager to get behind.

Choo’s first appearance in center for the Reds on Monday delivered about what we could expect, you know, if we were expecting a career right fielder to roam around the outfield and misjudge a deep fly ball. Peter Bourjos knocked a triple in the 12th inning of the Angels’ 3-1 win over the Reds on Monday. He can thank Choo for allowing this triple to see the scoresheet.

  1. Yup…looks like me out there…

  2. lol choo scored the Red’s only run in a game that went into extra innings, had a double, 2 hits, a walk and had a .400 average. he single handedly kept the Reds in the game for 13 innings

what a fucking noob. try watching the game instead of clipping gifts

    • All of which is relevant to his play in center field…how?

    • I think you missed the part where I said he was a great player, shitlord.

      • Put it on the board.

      • Scottie, none of us can hear the voices in your head. you gotta actually post up that he’s a “great player” in your blog if you want anyone else to know you think he’s a “great player”

and Choo is far from a “great player” he’s an above average player in about the top 30-35% percentile in a lot of areas. If you want someone who actually knows something about sports to lay out the numbers for you I will.

And none of that has anything to do with the fact that you’re a moron for blogging sports without even watching the games. Choo carried the Reds that game. He had 2 of 3 total hits and beat out a tag and scored their only run. I mean if you wrote something funny or even relevant to go along with that gif that would at least be something. You just clipped a gif randomly and posted it up with some words around it like you’re some 14 year old padding stats on a forum.

and how did you know i was a shitlord? That’s OUR word. U don’t use our word, bigot.

  3. It was his first real game as Reds. Obviously everyone knew he was not gonna be great CF, but he is a kind of guy who works hard to fix his weakness. I really do think he is going to be average CF this season and that will be fine for me with his great talent at the plate.

    • Unfortunately, this is what the Reds have in Choo, for better or for worse. This is the same Choo who played many years in right field for the Indians, only now he’s doing it in center field for the Reds. He’s always had a cannon for an arm, but his ability to read balls in flight is quite poor. Obviously he won’t make mistakes like this every game he plays in center field, but this is him… I don’t think you’re going to see much improvement. His bat and the bats of the other two outfielders are going to have to be the difference that makes it worth playing him in center field.
