It was “weird hats” that took some of the blame for the New York Mets’ loss to the San Diego Padres on Thursday. If the Mets struggle versus the Miami Marlins at home tonight, then it’s probably going to be those blue alternate jerseys that draw the ire of bizarro beat writers.

The Mets will be wearing one of two new blue alternates when they trot out at Citi Field on Friday night. No word if it’s the ‘Mets’ or ‘New York’ model that will be worn tonight. We do know that Jeremy Hefner will be wearing one, though.

The Mets announced that they would be wearing two new alternates for the 2013 season back in November. For more on the Mets new look, and what else is new in uniforms and logos for 2013, check out Chris Creamer’s latest at Getting Blanked.
