Pittsburgh Pirates v Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have lost a big piece of their offense for an indefinite period after placing second baseman Aaron Hill on the 15-day disabled list with a broken hand.

Hill, who rebounded in 2012 from a terrible 2011 season, was injured back on April 9th against the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was hit in the hand by a pitch by pitcher James McDonald. He returned to the field four days later only to be removed from the game April 14th due to soreness.

This season, he had posted a .306/.405/.556 line with two home runs.

GM  Kevin Towers:

“It is really unfortunate to lose not only a talented baseball player but a tremendous teammate in Aaron Hill for the near future, we are confident that the depth we have in the middle infield will serve us well while Aaron recovers.”

In a corresponding move, the team has recalled infielder Didi Gregorius, who was acquired from the Reds in a three-team trade that sent Trevor Bauer to the Cleveland Indians. In seven games for Triple-A Reno, the 23-year-old has a .387/.424/.645 line with two home runs.
