The first place Boston Red Sox are expected to activate David Ortiz from the 15-day disabled list in time for Friday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.

Ortiz, who signed a new two-year, $26 million deal this past off-season, has been dealing with inflammation in both heels since the middle of spring training. In five rehab games, Ortiz had three hits in 15 plate appearances.
In a corresponding move, Boston is expected to option outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to Triple-A Pawtucket. After being a surprise addition to the 25-man roster out of spring, the former 2011 draft pick has struggled with the big club, posting a .097/.263/.129 line with a 31.6 K%.
