The Boston Red Sox have placed closer Joel Hanrahan on the 15-day disabled list due to a hamstring injury. The move is retroactive to April 14th.
Hanrahan, who was acquired this past offseason from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a six-player deal, has struggled in the early portion of the season, posting a 11.57 ERA, 12.89 FIP with 7.7 K/9 and 9.6 BB/9 in 4 2/3 innings. In his place, the Red Sox will likely stick with Andrew Bailey in the closer’s role, despite blowing a save Monday vs. Tampa.
