Sergio Romo Combats Identity Theft (By Complaining About it)

Aww, look how cute! Giants reliever Sergio Romo making the day of fans you and old at their recent FanFest, posing for pictures like a good citizen.

Except that isn’t Sergio Romo at all, that is a somebody who looks enough like Romo to dupe dozens of people. The actual Romo re-posted this fan collage on his instragram feed featuring a Sergio lookalike taking pictures with numerous people, all of whom were led to believe they just met the diminutive Giants closer.

Which, it turns out, it was not.

Im very sorry for all my REAL fans that were misled by this impostor saying he was me at fanfest!! My apologies for not being able to meet all u at fanfest! It was def an awesome day and im beyond grateful for the reception i got yesterday!! Just dont want any of my fans misled by someone who gets a kick out of lying to u all!

TMZergh: Sergio Romo “Busted” at Las Vegas Airport

Welp. Sergio Romo might be the chillest bro in baseball and a damn fine reliever to boot but, according to a TMZ report, he doesn’t travel too well. The man who wore the above shirt into public in October was cited for “violating airport rules” before a flight out of Las Vegas, reportedly getting belligerent with a TSA officer.

The pitcher was detained by police after he could not provide proper ID to clear security and then released, though he was unable to board his flight and escorted off airport grounds. TMZ cites “law enforcement officials” who believe Romo was under the influence at the time of the incident.

As many on Twitter are quick to point out, TSA officers are among the worst people to roam our Earth and no doubt pestered Sergio Romo beyond his breaking point. Judging by his choice of attire for the Giants victory parade, this was not the first time he experienced this time of scrutiny at an airport. After this, he can look forward to many, many more. Fighting the good fight, as always, TSA friends.

Romophobia Rears its Ugly Head

If, since the start of last season, one of the three best relievers in baseball pitched for your favourite team, what role would you want for him? If your team featured an elite arm, the pitcher with the best ERA in baseball by ERA since the start of 2011, owner of the second-best strikeout-to-walk ratio and second best FIP, SIERA, and xFIP among all relievers with 60 or more innings pitched, how would you want him deployed?

One would think that any team with such an arm in their stable is not in the market for a new closer. One can only assume that such a pitcher, given the slavish devotion to the save statistic, that such a valuable pitcher would be the man in line to lock up victories for his employers. You would be wrong.
