The St. Louis Cardinals, less than fifteen hours after the above occurred, have traded second baseman Tyler Greene to the Houston Astros for a player to be named later and/or cash considerations. Greene, was the Cardinals first round pick in the 2005 Rule IV Draft, going 30th overall.

While it’s somewhat misleading to suggest that last night’s flood gate opening gaffe on Ryan Theriot’s double play ball was the sole cause for today’s trade, it can be seen as the straw that broke John Mozeliak’s back. In parts of four seasons at the Major League level, the former prospect failed to make anything remotely resembling an impact, providing less than replacement level value in every area but base running.

He’ll join an Astros team that has proven itself to be accepting to and accommodating of former prospects who have become current suspects. Greene figures to fit into the infield situation in Houston, which at one point threatened to play Brett Wallace at shortstop.
