Let’s be honest. Newspapers are so 2001, and the blogosphere is just too big to sift through every day for your football fix. We have you covered with the latest stories, topics, and opinion from the World Wide Web here at the Goal-Line Stand with our Lunch Links.
+ Madden Geeks rejoice! The day has finally come! EA Sports released Madden 2011 today! Marriages everywhere are ruined! I don’t know what we’re yelling about!
+ Today was a critical day for the Darrelle Revis holdout, as it’s the last day Revis can report to camp and still get credit for the 2010 season. And it came and went without the All-Pro signing the dotted line. A day after the Jets rejected the latest offer from Revis’ agents, owner Woody Johnson said he doesn’t see a deal happening anytime soon. Oh those poor, tortured Jets fans. With Mark Sanchez maturing, Shonn Greene set to explode, and Santonio Holmes on board, there were visions of the Super Bowl dancing in New York’s head. Now Gang Green Nation is left with the all-too-familiar feelings of Keyshawn Johnson’s departure.
+ While Minnesota Vikings management continues to deal with their own yearly August headache (Hint: this headache once starred alongside Ben Stiller in a Hollywood classic), Percy Harvin is dealing with a headache of his own…a real one, that’s really big. Harvin will continue to miss practice because of migraines, a problem he has dealt with in the past.
+ There isn’t any new Favre news today (thank god), but I can’t resist passing along this video in case you haven’t seen it yet, which was posted by our boy Andrew Stoeten in his morning link dump. It’s inspired by Favre’s alleged photo session and texts to Jenn Sterger:
And for good measure, here’s a dandy courtesy of The Onion as they mock Favre’s annual August announcements:
+ If you picked Beanie Wells as the next serious training camp injury victim, you’re wrong. The Cardinals running back is day-to-day after injuring his ribs Monday in practice. He had a CT scan which did not reveal any fractures or bone damage. Wells went down after a hit from safety Hamza Abdullah.
+ Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune was elevated to rockstar status last week when he broke the news of Brett Favre’s potential retirement and texts to teammates. The latest from Zulgad has the rehabilitation of Vikings’ breakout receiver Sidney Rice–who had 83 receptions last year for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns–depending on a lot more than just the health of his hip.
And we digress…
I know absolutely nothing about the movie “Due Date”, other than what I learned in 30 seconds of IMDB research. But I know this: I’m definitely seeing it.
