With five days of mediation down, it’s amazing how few cats the NFL and NFLPA have let slip out of their respective bags. There have been very few moles, and freezing the media — aside from letting them take pictures of their lunch — has seemed to serve the two sides well. No more rhetoric and no more publicity stunts.

Tuesday was a “big day” at the bargaining table, according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, who notes that “some sort of a breakthrough occurred on the fifth day.”

An annual meeting between the NFLPA and a select group of agents, held at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, has been cancelled so that the two sides can continue to negotiate uninterrupted. That would make it seven straight days filled with dialogue.

Smile, football fans. Things are finally starting to look up.
