We’ve made a daily effort to explain the minutiae of the NFL lockout. But despite our best attempts, we fully understand that any legal matter–and especially one involving a $9 billion business–can quickly become mind-numbing and difficult to follow.

If you’re reading this, you’re a passionate football fan, and you probably–hopefully–have at least a vague understanding of what’s transpired with the NFL labour strife over the past week. You know the meaning of the term “lockout,” and the simple but important difference between a lockout and a player strike. And you know the main issues of contention between the NFL and the former players’ union (you also might be able to explain decertification, but that’s pushing it).

But, as Jimmy Kimmel demonstrated earlier this week, there are a lot of people who can’t even begin to explain the lockout.

Especially Canadians.
