A record 25 players will be in attendance at Radio City Music Hall Thursday for the 2011 NFL Draft. But only eight percent of those attending will be quarterbacks. Only Cam Newton (projected by many to go first overall) and Blaine Gabbert (widely considered to be a top-five pick) are brave enough show their faces on draft night.

Guys like Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick and Ricky Stanzi are playing it safe, knowing full well how it feels when the cameras are trained on a plummeting signal caller. (That said, it’s not clear how many of those players were actually invited.)

Chances are good that at least a handful of the players who accepted invitations to the event won’t be selected on the first night. But the league was smart enough to extend invites to several guys who will be in that position, making it less awkward for the group to return together for Round 2 on Friday night.
