- The NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora was among the first sources to report Tuesday afternoon that a deal in principle had been reached between the Vikings and Redskins for Donovan McNabb, and that McNabb will have to restructure his contract for the deal to be completed. He’s still sticking with that report this morning, and says that further discussions between the two sides will take place today.
- Adam Schefter also chimed in this morning, saying that a McNabb deal will be completed today, but both the Redskins and McNabb’s agent told him that the trade isn’t official yet.
- Jay Glazer reported that when the deal is finally completed Washington will receive a sixth round pick in 2012 for McNabb, and possibly a sixth round pick in the 2013 draft as well.
- Christian Ponder is excited to have McNabb coming to Minnesota, but says he’ll still be fighting for the starting job.
- Dan Snyder had to make some sort of headline by spending money on the unofficial first day of free agency, a goal he accomplished by bringing in defensive tackle Barry Cofield. The now former Giant reportedly signed a six-year deal worth $36 million, with $12.5 million guaranteed.
- Moving on to Seattle, the Seahawks officially saw the departure of Matt Hasselbeck when he signed with the Titans this morning, while Pete Carroll and company continue to pursue every backup quarterback in the league.
- A reported meeting between Plaxico Burress and the Giants today won’t be happening. Damn league rules.
- Rounding up two other notable but not post-worthy signings, Takeo Spikes went to San Diego, and the Packers re-signed Mason Crosby.
- Aaron Rodgers hopes that Green Bay’s front office now turns its attention to James Jones.
- Despite his off-field troubles, Aqib Talib isn’t going anywhere.
- Logan Mankins will report to training camp on time and sign his contract tender.
- During the lockout it was always laughable when so-called football fans said they would be boycotting the season even after the NFL returns. On the first day that teams were permitted negotiate transactions, major websites like Pro Football Talk experienced record setting numbers, and at one point yesterday nine of the ten trending topics on Twitter were NFL-related.
- Oh, and ticket sales are exploding. Nice job following through on that angst, disgruntled football fans.
