• My triumphant return after a week on vacation logically begins with a shirtless Mark Sanchez and the Jets quarterback saying he wanted to hit his head coach at one point last season. We’re sure any hard feelings were smoothed over after Sanchez bought Rex Ryan a god damn snack.
  • Jake Locker looked good in his preseason debut, but he’ll have to be downright herculean during training camp to change the Titans’ plans at quarterback this season.
  • Osi Umenyiora ended his standoff with the Giants on Sunday and will return to the team today, playing this season under his current contract. However, there are rumors that a new deal is coming soon.
  • Perhaps the play of Jason Pierre-Paul in New York’s preseason opener against Carolina prompted Umenyiora’s change of heart. The 15th overall pick in last year’s draft was matched up against two-time Pro Bowler Jordan Gross, but he still had two sacks and a key pressure that led to an interception.
  • In his Sunday Blitz column Dan Pompei of the National Football Post reports that Chad Ochocinco and/or Albert Haynesworth could be cut by the Patriots before the season starts.
  • If Ocho avoids Bill Belichick‘s wrath he may be lining up alongside his former Cincinnati teammate T.J. Housmandzadeh in the near future.
  • The 49ers might resurrect the career of Daunte Culpepper, potentially putting the team two freak injuries away from actually allowing Culpepper to touch a football during a meaningful NFL game.
  • DeSean Jackson evidently didn’t check his team mailbox, and didn’t read the memo about the acquisition of Steve Smith. Despite what head coach Andy Reid said previously, Jackson told the media that Smith was acquired because the team isn’t sure about the health of Jeremy Maclin.
