In times of injury, the truth is an elusive beast. Despite the plethora of reports, the team in question will always be the mother hen, protecting its prized asset. Since the only team that rivals the Patriots and Bill Belichick in terms of injury secrecy is the Bears, we assumed right away that getting any concrete, definitive, and official information regarding Jay Cutler’s thumb would be difficult.
But so far, the Bears have been more transparent than expected, with a twist or two thrown in for good measure.
Reports last night indicated that Cutler will be out for the next six-to-eight weeks with a broken right thumb, and earlier this morning Bears head coach Lovie Smith confirmed the injury during a radio appearance. Smith said Cutler has a right thumb fracture, and that he’s seeing specialists today. However, he wouldn’t provide an expected timetable for his quarterback’s recovery, only saying that he anticipated high-level quarterback play from backup Caleb Hanie. On that last point, Smith’s alone.
Then later ESPN’s Rachel Nichols reported that Cutler will undergo surgery this week and as soon as tomorrow, with the Bears remaining hopeful that he’ll recover quickly and return later this season.
We can assume that if the Bears are legitimately hoping for Cutler’s timely return, sooner is much more preferable than later for a surgery date, so the initial educated guess of this week seems safe.
It’s late November, and the last game of Week 11 will be played tonight. With the surgery confirmed we can predict with reasonable confidence that the Bears won’t have a quarterback named Cutler under center for the remainder of the regular season. The best case scenario for a quick-healing Cutler would be a return by the first week of January for what would be the opening round of the playoffs, if the Bears qualify to play such a game.
But there’s good news from camp Cutler: he’s engaged again (!!!)
That’s right, kids, if there was a void in your life that desperately needed to be filled by another celebrity wedding, your wish has been granted and Cutvallari is back. Life and Style Weekly has the exclusive details of the wedding bliss between Cutler and Kristin Cavallari that was on and then off, and is now on…again.
Life & Style can exclusively reveal that Jay has proposed for the second time–and Kristin has accepted!
“Kristin is over the moon with happiness,” a source tells Life & Style. “She’s already told her friends that the engagement is back on. They haven’t set a new date yet.”
So Jay’s timing with this injury is perfect, because now he can stick around his Chicago homestead to research floral arrangements and centerpieces for the upcoming nuptials.
Yeah, we give it a month.
