The carousel has ground to a halt, and yet four teams are still searching for head coaches. Here’s the latest:

Chicago Bears

What’s happening: They continue their search for a new general manager, which means Lovie Smith isn’t guaranteed anything.

What they’ll do next: Keep interviewing. Tim Ruskell, Jason Licht from the Patriots and Jimmy Raye III of the Chargers have interviewed thus far, with Phil Emery of the Chiefs and Marc Ross of the Giants on the horizon.

What they should do next: The GM search is dragging on long enough that I’d imagine Smith will get one more year to prove he can make another run with this core. Then again, the market is still flush and Jeff Fisher was fired by Tennessee on Jan. 27 last year, so it wouldn’t be unprecedented.

Indianapolis Colts

What’s happening: New general manager Ryan Grigson has fired Jim Caldwell.

What they’ll do next: Interview head-coaching candidates such as red-hot candidate Mike Zimmer, Pete Carmichael of the Saints and Tennessee’s Jerry Gray. We’ve also heard Todd Bowles’ name, as well as Marty Mornhinweg’s.

What they should do next: Hire Zimmer, but I think they’re leaning toward an offensive mind for the sake of Andrew Luck.

Jacksonville Jaguars

What’s happening: They’ve hired Mike Mularkey to be their next head coach. Case closed.

Kansas City Chiefs

What’s happening: They’ve removed the interim tag from Romeo Crennel’s title. Case closed.

Miami Dolphins

What’s happening: They’re interviewing fallback options after losing out on Jeff Fisher.

What they’ll do next: It looks like Zimmer is out of consideration and now they’re focusing on Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Bowles and Joe Philbin from Green Bay. They’ll likely decide soon. I think…

What they should do next: McCoy has emerged as the favorite, and I think he’d be a good choice for an offense like Miami’s.

Oakland Raiders

What’s happening: New GM Reggie McKenzie is trying to determine who will replace fired head coach Hue Jackson.

What they’ll do next: The Packers are eliminated, so they can focus on interviewing candidates from McKenzie’s former home. They’re also reportedly showing interest in Mornhinweg, but McCoy has pulled out. Carmichael’s name has also been thrown out there.

What they should do next: Hire a Green Bay guy like Philbin or Winston Moss. I’m a big fan of coach-GM duos that can work together peacefully and happily.

Philadelphia Eagles

What’s happening: They decided to keep Andy Reid and Howie Roseman. Case closed.

St. Louis Rams

What’s happening: They’ve hired Jeff Fisher as head coach. Case closed.

What they’ll do next: Hire a fairly anonymous and submissive GM to work with Fisher.

San Diego Chargers

What’s happening: They decided to keep Norv Turner and A.J. Smith. Case closed.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What’s happening: They’re interviewing literally everyone associated with the game of football. This has been the strangest and slowest coaching search in the league.

What they’ll do next: It’s sort of a mess. They might conduct more interviews, and they haven’t even reached the second round yet. They haven’t even ruled out a single candidate, with eight on the list.

What they should do next: We agree with ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas that Zimmer and Mike Sherman are the top candidates. Either would be a quality hire.
